Baaziz

Abdelaziz Bekhti, known as Baaziz, was born in Cherchell, Algeria, in 1963, the son of a chaâbi musician and sailor father and a Kabyle mother. Baaziz’s songs are rock’chaäbi, hijacked, contentious and irreverent. After his offbeat cover of Renaud’s L’Hexagone (J’m’en fous), Baaziz scored a huge hit in 1999, bringing together 27 Algerian artists for his song Algérie mon amour, a hymn to freedom.
