Influenced by Bella Bellow, Afiwavi Mawulana Catherine Missohou, aka Afia MALA, started her career in 1974, culminating in 1984 when she was awarded the Découvertes RFI prize. Of Togolese nationality, Afia MALA sings in several languages, including Yoruba, Swahili, Lingala, French, and Spanish.
