Initially known as Bana Kibushi Batano, this Congolese band, under the leadership of Vicky Numbi, originated in Lubumbashi during the ’60s. They later relocated to Kigoma, Tanzania, where was bestowed upon them their new moniker, “Hi-Fives.” Their move to Kenya saw them shaping the Mpete wa Kibushi style, significantly influencing Kenyan music. With over a dozen singles and three albums, their impact on the East African music scene was substantial.
